What is Sacramento Sirens Cheer Elite (SSCE)?
Sacramento Sirens Cheer Elite (SSCE) is an 18 & over cheer squad, which performs to support organizations in the greater Sacramento area that provide care to individuals facing physical, developmental or emotional disabilities. Through support of the Sacramento Sirens full tackle football team and the Independent Women’s Football Team (IWFL), SSCE also provides opportunities and promotion for women in athletics.

As members of SSCE, we are volunteers of all ages, shapes, sexes, athletic abilities and sexual preferences. We celebrate diversity!

Why should I join?
The benefits of membership with SSCE are NUMEROUS.
Listed below are just a few:

  • Fitness: Members of SSCE are in great shape. We work hard & have fun doing it!
  • Philanthropy: Members of SSCE perform to give back to the community in which we live. It’s a win-win!
  • Camaraderie: Members of SSCE are part of a group of wonderful people, in a positive environment. We always leave practice smiling!
  • Teamwork: Members of SSCE know what it feels like to be part of something big. We can’t exist without each other & that’s a great thing.
  • Support: Members of SSCE are part of a support system within our team and as a part of PCA (Pride Cheer Association) as a whole. The feeling of positivity and support when we’re around our PCA family is indescribable. We can’t wait for you to experience it!

How can I become a member of SSCE?
Group Tryouts: SSCE holds one-two group tryout dates per year. (See "TRYOUTS" link at left for more information!)

Individual Tryouts: Individual tryouts may be scheduled on a case-by case basis, if group tryouts are not an option. Contact us for more info.

Please contact Misty Dawn (Head Coach) for more information & to schedule your tryout! (captain_misty@sacramentosirenscheerelite.com)

How long is your season?
Our season is literally ALL YEAR LONG. We prep for the coming year from July to March, support the Sacramento Sirens women’s football team from March through June & have our major performance season April through June (with June being by far the busiest month). It's a big committment, but it's also a BLAST.

If I try out, how long am I committed to the team?
SSCE requires a minimum one-year commitment to the team. Leaving the team mid-year negatively affects everyone else on the team and is therefore unacceptable. Please contact either the Head Coach or the Captain for a current SSCE calendar to determine if a one-year commitment is compatible with your schedule before making the decision to try out.

What are the categories of membership?
Performer: An individual who meets the requirements to actively participate with the performance team executing stunts, cheers and dance routines.

Guest Performer: An individual invited to perform with SSCE by Leadership on either a one time or recurring basis.

Auxiliary: An individual who serves a supportive, non-performing role on a continuing basis. These roles include but are not limited to: fundraising, event coordination, public relations, artistic support, trip planning, photography, videotaping & transporting water, equipment or other supplies at events and parades.

Periodic Auxiliary: An individual who serves a supportive, non-performing role on an occasional basis.

Are practices mandatory?
YES. Member absences from practices and events can cause serious artistic, safety, and/or team morale problems since a lot of extra time must be spent re-choreographing routines to fill positions/roles. In order to ensure the team is properly and safely prepared for upcoming performances, an SSCE member’s position in a routine may need to change if he/she is late or absent.

When and where do you practice?
Sacramento Sirens Cheer Elite (SSCE) practices on Wednesday evenings (7:00-9:30pm) in Elk Grove.

All performers are required to attend Wednesday practices.

SSCE also holds additional practices ("ELITE Practice") Sunday afternoons/evenings in Sacramento. These practices are optional until mid-April, unless otherwise specified by leadership. At this point, these practices become mandatory as we gear up for our June performance season.

How much does it cost to be a member of SSCE?
Startup cost for a brand new member: approx $450 (broken into payments)

Performing members are expected to pay for a variety of expenses such as uniforms (approx $250), practice wear ($50), cheer camp ($100-$300), gym fee ($25/month) and most, if not all, travel expenses. New members are required to pay a one-time $50 application fee.

Auxiliary members may incur similar cheer wear and travel expenses but are not required to purchase a performance uniform.

We keep our performance uniform approximately 4 years before selecting a new design, which greatly helps keep our cost down.

Our current uniforms were purchased for our 2010 performance season.

Where do you perform?
We perform at various events throughout the year, including Sacramento Sirens football games, Pride festivals, local community shows, parades and special events. June is the peak of our performance season, and by far our busiest month. Contact either the Head Coach or Captain for a current list of events for this performance year.

Are children allowed at practices?
Sometimes - Contact us for more information.

What is the minimum/maximum age to be on
the team?

You must be at least 18 to be a member of SSCE, but there is no maximum age. We currently have members in their 30s and 40s on the team.

How much tumbling or prior cheerleading experience is required to join?
We currently do not require experience to try out for SSCE. The most important attributes we look for are a positive attitude, potential for compatibility with the team, ability to take correction and willingness to learn… together.

Does SSCE compete?
Unlike other cheer teams in the area, SSCE has made the decision not to compete. This allows us to keep our focus on supporting the Sacramento Sirens football team and giving back to the community. It also keeps our cost relatively low (as we are not incurring entrance fees for competitions) and our level of commitment manageable for working adults.

I do not cheer, but I still want to help.
Is there anything I can do?

Absolutely! Auxiliary members serve a supportive, non-performing role for SSCE. Duties include but are not limited to: fundraising, event coordination, public relations, artistic support, trip planning, photography, videotaping and the transportation of water, equipment or other supplies at events and parades.

We also have multiple sponsorship options available, for those interested in making a financial contribution.

Is SSCE a co-ed team?
Yes we are!

I'm interested in being a sponsor.
